Men’s MMA Featherweight Rankings December 2020 Update: Back-to-back wins over future UFC Hall-of-Famer and former wizard of the featherweights Max Holloway has secured Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski‘s place at the top of the division. While we await word of the Australian Volkanovski’s next opponent, the Hawaiian Holloway returns to action on January 16th, 2021, in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, against Calvin Kattar. Since losing to Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC Fight Night 163 on November of 2019, Kattar has rattled off consecutive wins against Jeremy Stephens and a very game Dan Ige.
Zabit continues to make his presence felt in the featherweight division. While his fight against Yair Rodriguez was called off due to injuries (reports at time of writing this have Rodriguez suspended by USADA for 6 months) Chan Sung Jung has expressed interest in fighting the Russian. “The Korean Zombie” is coming off of a one-sided loss to a resurgent Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC Fight Night 180. Ortega, of course, was decimated in his time out before against Holloway in 2018, so we will see if “T-City” continues to make waves on his comeback towards a title shot.
Over in Bellator, champion Patricio Freire demolished challenger Pedro Carvalho to continue his six-fight win streak and advance to the California-based promotions’ Grand Prix semifinal. The 33-year old from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, will face a man he’s already defeated before, Emmanuel Sanchez.
