The consensus boxing P4P #1 Claressa Shields has begun her MMA training and is making quite the impression around the sports world.
Claressa Shields has been training in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the famed JacksonWink MMA gym with the #1-ranked P4P men’s champion and arguably the greatest male MMA fighter of all time, Jon Jones. Greg Jackson told ESPN that he has been impressed with her ring smarts, her strength and natural talent. “If they bring her up right and she goes step by step and doesn’t rush things, the sky is the limit,” Jackson told ESPN. “Literally, the sky is the limit. She’s so good.”
The 25-year old Shields has signed a contract to fight in 2021 for the PFL, competing in one-off fights outside of the promotion’s current league structure. While she has already “mastered” the “art of the high kick,” what’s more interesting is at what weight she will compete at. The 5-foot 10-inch Shields weights around 165 lbs., so if she will compete around there or drop down into the realm of 145-155 remains to be seen.
