When the news broke last Thursday of former middleweight title-challenger Yoel Romero being cut loose by the UFC, MMA fans were shocked. How, what, why etc. Dana White confirmed at Saturday’s UFC Vegas 16 post-fight press conference that the “Soldier of God’s” release was due to end of year cuts, which White says will see around 60 fights leave the promotion.
On Monday, word got out that fan-favorite and The Ultimate Fighter season 26 alum Rachel Ostovich has also been released by the Las Vegas-based promotion. Ostovich is on a 3-fight skid with losses to Montana de la Rosa, Paige VanZant and most recently Gina Mazany.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson have also mutually parted ways. The Georgia native is said to have already agreed terms with Bellator and is expected to sign the deal soon to compete as a light heavyweight in the first half of 2021. Johnson holds a 22-6 record, having most recently lost to Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 back in April of 2017. He holds wins over current UFC 205 title-challenger Glover Teixeira, Bellator champ Ryan Bader, Jimi Manuwa, Alexander Gustafsson, Phil Davis and Andrei Arlovski, amongst others.
